Welcome!

I'm Jean Patrick, the author of several nonfiction books for children, including The Girl Who Struck Out Babe Ruth and Long-armed Ludy and the First Women's Olympics.

I have some great news!  The Girl Who Changed Little League: The True Story of Maria Pepe and her Battle to Play Ball will be published by Little Brown Books for Young Readers on March 3, 2026. And guess what? I had the honor of co-authoring the book with Maria!

Who is Maria Pepe? Back in 1972, 11-year-old Maria played three games in Little League -- even though it was against the rules for girls to participate.  Before long, she was in the middle of a national controversy. Details to come!

Also, I want to give a huge shout out to the Chattanooga Public Library where I led a writing workshop and gave my Jackie Mitchell presentation in November 2025. If you want to visit a vibrant library, this is the place to go!

Keep on reading, writing, and creating!

All the best,
Jean
